Know Your Rights information
You have constitutional rights:
- Do not open the door if an immigration agent is knocking. If you are inside of your house, show the card through the window or slide it under the door.
- Do not answer any questions from an immigration agent if they try to talk to you. You have the right to remain silent.
- Do not sign anything without first speaking to a lawyer. You have the right to speak with a lawyer.
- If you are outside of your house, show this card to the agent. Ask the agent if you are free to leave and if they say you can, leave calmly.
The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) has created a variety of materials to educate the community and prepare individuals for possible encounters with immigration authorities.

The Rapid Response Network (RRN) in Santa Clara County is a community defense project developed to protect families from deportation threats and to provide support during and after a community member’s arrest or detention. Anyone can call the 24/7 hotline to report ICE activity in our county and receive help in real-time at (408) 290-1144.

When you call the Rapid Response Network:
- An experienced dispatcher will support members of our community in asserting their rights and will dispatch trained responders to the site.
- If needed, rapid responders will conduct legal observation and documentation that may be used to support the immigration case of the community member.
- If a community member is detained, we connect them to immigration attorneys and activate accompaniment teams to provide moral support to the family.
Concerned community members in Santa Clara County may call the hotline when they:
- suspect immigration enforcement activity in their neighborhood;
- are the target of an enforcement activity; or
- have had a loved one detained by ICE.
