Overview
The New American Fellowship (NAF) honors the contributions of immigrants and children of immigrants in the United States. Each year, the County of Santa Clara hosts a cohort of New American immigrants who are poised to make significant contributions to U.S. society, economy, culture, and in their academic field. The goal of NAF is to create a mutually beneficial experience for both the participants and the County.
Purpose
This Fellowship provides an opportunity for New Americans to gain valuable insights relating to the work of the County and increase their leadership and professional skills. Fellows will be placed within the Division of Equity and Social Justice and engage in a project that promotes social justice and equity for the immigrant community. PROGRAM
- The Fellowship is a 10-week summer program (June 9, 2025 – August 15, 2025) that offers a stipend of up to $10,000 to cover living expenses.
- Fellows will learn current needs and priorities of SCC’s diverse immigrant community.
- Fellows will be paired with a County staff member to establish ongoing mentorship, participate in community dialogues, and learn more about County resources and services.
- The Fellowship will conclude with a final presentation that will be delivered to County departments and the larger community to highlight immigrant stories, community priorities, and significant contributions.
- Fellows are required to participate in fellowship full-time (40 hours a week) for the entire 10 weeks, in-person.
