2023 Women's Equality Day Event

On August 24th 2023, Commission on the Status of Women hosted the Women's Equality Day Luncheon Event, celebrating the progress made towards gender equality.

The event was a huge success, which included keynote speaker, CA State Controller Malia Cohen, a panel discussion on the CEDAW ordinance that was passed by the board of supervisors, and we were honored by attendance of over 50 elected officials.

Here are a few highlights from the SCC CSW Women's Equality Day 50th Anniversary:

  • The event was completely sold out! 
  • We were honored to be hosted by our Title Sponsor LinkedIn at their worldwide headquarters in Mountain View CA with many LinkedIn senior executives in attendance.
  • President of the SCC BOS, Supervisor Susan Ellenberg Emcee'd the event.
  • CA State Controller Malia Cohen gave a powerful Keynote address.
  • Our very own Woman of Impact, San Jose born and bred, Olympic medalist - Danielle Slaton was honored
  • Supervisors Arenas, Chavez, Ellenberg and Simitian were in attendance and Supervisor Lee sent a representative!
  • The "POWER of CEDAW" segment featured "A Conversation with Supervisor Cindy Chavez" to celebrate the historic adoption of a full CEDAW Ordinance on May 2, 2023.
  • We honored Santa Clara University School of Law International Human Rights Clinic Faculty and Students.
  • We had close to 50 elected officials and dignitaries in attendance
